Ms. Valerie Annear joined the Holyoke Public Schools in the summer of 2018 as the Chief Instructional Officer.  She leads the Academic Department, which is responsible for ensuring a vertically aligned standards-based curriculum is implemented in all schools.  Ms. Annear has served as an educational leader in Western Mass for over 20 years. She is formerly the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for East Longmeadow Public Schools.  She began her career in Springfield Public Schools as a special education teacher and then as a district level leader. Ms. Annear served as Supervisor for Project LEAD, one of only two district-based licensure programs in Massachusetts. Later, she served as the Director of Cohesive Leadership, a unique partnership with Boston Public Schools and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education sponsored by the Wallace Foundation.  Ms. Annear earned her B.S in Education and M.Ed in Special Education from American International College.  She received her C.A.G.S in Educational Leadership from UMASS.
