Dear Families, Partners, and Colleagues,

I know we are all relieved to see the number of COVID-19 cases dropping significantly in our region recently, and we are hopeful that this trend continues to improve in the coming weeks.

Here at HPS, we continue to take important steps to help keep our school community safe, including maintaining our focus on air quality and safety. We owe a big thank you to our facilities team members Oscar Williams and Whitney Anderson, who during last week’s February break went through each school building to perform inspections, replace all pre filters, and conduct other preventative maintenance services for more than 450 classroom-based large air filtration machines systems that were installed early in the COVID-19 pandemic to promote high air quality. These air filtration devices are an important component of our COVID–19 safety protocols, and we are very happy to report that all units were found to be functioning properly and running strong.

I shared with you earlier this week that HPS will maintain its mask mandate for all staff, students, and visitors in our buildings at least through the month of March. We will continue to monitor local COVID-19 data over the next few weeks to determine whether local infection rates are low enough to consider ending the mask mandate later this spring or by the end of the school year. We will let you know as soon as a decision has been made.

Please join me in sending a shout-out of congratulations to six HPS educators who were selected to win Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Awards for 2022. You can learn more about these highly valued colleagues in the story and video below.
