Dear Families, Partners, and Colleagues,

Today, Friday March 25, marks the first time in two years that our students can be mask-free at school, and we recognize this milestone with cautious optimism that we have turned a collective corner in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beginning in April, our monthly School Committee meetings will be held in person—with Zoom as an option for those who wish to participate remotely—reflecting another milestone achieved.

For many, this is a time to celebrate the progress we have made locally, regionally, and across the state to significantly bring down the number of COVID-19 cases and increase the number of people who are fully vaccinated and boosted. This day did not come without a price, however, and together we mourn with those who lost loved ones during the pandemic and extend heartfelt concern for those who face health issues from current or prior COVID-19 infections.

We also know there are no guarantees. Today we feel confident we can safely remove the district’s mask mandates for students, staff, and school visitors, based on data available to us at this time. But the future—as always—is uncertain. The health and safety of our school community remains our highest priority, so we will continue to monitor local and regional health metrics. We will continue to remain in compliance with all current and future health regulations set by the city, state, and federal governments, and we will continue to establish and follow prudent measures as needed in the future.
