DESE Commissioner Jeffrey Riley Announces Next HPS Receiver 

Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Jeffrey Riley announced the appointment of Dr. Alberto Vázquez Matos as the next HPS Receiver in this letter (PDF). Dr.  Welcome to the Holyoke Public Schools Dr. Matos!

 

Dr. Zrike and the Holyoke Public Schools leadership team will work with Dr. Vázquez Matos to ensure a smooth transition. Dr. Vázquez Matos will officially begin his duties as receiver on July 1, 2020.

Search Process for Receiver of HPS

 

With the departure of Holyoke Public Schools Receiver Dr. Stephen Zrike at the end of June, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has begun a search for a new Receiver.  Commissioner Jeffrey Riley shared in his 1-7-20 letter to the HPS community, “Students in Holyoke have greater opportunities now than they did when he (Dr. Zrike) arrived, and we will continue to build on the foundation that he helped create.”  Commissioner Riley wants to ensure that all members of the Holyoke community contribute to the search process for a new Receiver to lead HPS “by articulating the characteristics and qualities they would like to see in that individual.”
