UPCOMING EVENTS:

  • April 16-20 – Schools closed for Spring Recess AND Vacation Academy takes place for selected HPS students in grades 2-5. Vacation Academy will take place at Peck, Sullivan and Donahue schools but will engage students from all schools in the district. Students will have the chance to build critical math skills and confidence through targeted instruction and small class sizes. Teachers will bring math to life by connecting it to topics like sports, cooking and careers. Students will also engage daily in math games and competitions that will lead up to a Friday “Mathletics” event at Peck School.
  • Until May 4th – Heart of Holyoke Art Show at the Visitors’ Center during operating hours (Heritage State Park, 21 Appleton Street, Holyoke MA).  This annual event showcases artwork from all of our schools and is open to the public – admission is free.
  • April 24 – A Holocaust Commemoration Program will take place on Tuesday, April 24th, 6:45 p.m. at the Holyoke Council on Aging, 291 Pine Street.  This event is free to the public. The HHS Madrigal chorus will be present.
  • April 24 – Preschool Screenings – The Holyoke Public School District’s Preschool Child Find activities include free developmental and academic screenings for preschool age children residing in Holyoke, MA, who have not been previously identified as students with disabilities under IDEA Part B or Part C. Preschool Screenings are offered for children from age 2 years, 9 months to age 5, for students who are not yet enrolled in Holyoke Public Schools.  If you are interested in setting up a screening, please contact Jill Hughes at (413) 512-5313. Screenings are by appointment only and take place on Tuesday, April, 24th at Metcalf School (2019 Northampton St.). See flyer for more information about the screenings. | Read more about Child Find.
  • May 1  (5-7 p.m.) Holyoke Education Equity Coalition Community Meetings – at the Holyoke Public Library (250 Chestnut St), June 12 (5-7 p.m., Location to be determined) –  The purpose of the Holyoke Education Equity Coalition is to ensure public education in Holyoke helps ALL our students achieve success and includes diverse voices and perspectives from across our community. All members of the HPS community and Holyoke residents are invited to the community meetings of the Holyoke Education Equity Coalition.  We are creating a community-led plan to address issues of equity and diversity in our schoolsThe plan will help us ensure public education in Holyoke helps ALL our students achieve success and includes diverse voices and perspectives from across our community.   • May 3, Parent Power Summit: Empowering Our Children’s Math Learning – from 5-8pm at Holyoke High School. Learn about tools and strategies to confidently boost your child’s math skills. Light dinner will be served at 4:30 pm, and childcare, Spanish interpretation and transportation are available if requested.   • May 6th – River Roll and Stroll, a one-of-a-kind, free-of-charge event in The Flats – the bridge will be totally closed to traffic, and full of fun! The River Roll and Stroll is a car-free event on the Route 116 Bridge with face painting, bubbles, soccer, music, magicians, and performers. Join in on this wonderful event from 11 AM  – 3 PM!”

School Year 2018-19 School Start and End Times

We are maintaining the same start and end times for almost all schools, including:

  • E.N. White and McMahon: 7:40 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
  • Holyoke High – South Campus (Dean): – 7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., with an early release at 1:40 p.m. on Wednesdays for staff development
  • Donahue, Lawrence, Kelly, Metcalf, Morgan, Sullivan: 8:30 a.m. – 3:35 p.m.

To ensure a smooth and orderly dismissal, we are adjusting the times for Peck and Holyoke High – North Campus by 5 minutes, in order to lengthen the amount of time between the dismissal of these two schools.

  • Peck: 7:35 a.m. – 2:40 p.m.
  • Holyoke High – North Campus: 8:10 a.m. – 2:55 p.m., with an early release at 2:05 p.m. on Wednesdays for staff development

We have also set the start and end times for our two new schools to ensure that the dismissal time of the new schools is later than the dismissal time of the schools in which they are co-located with.

  • Veritas Prep Holyoke: 7:35 a.m. – 3:35 p.m., with an early release at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays for staff development
  • Holyoke STEM Academy: 7:45 a.m. – 2:50 p.m.
