Health Assisting

The Health Assisting program at HHS Dean Campus is a Chapter 74 approved program that offers students the foundation of one of the most rewarding and fastest growing career pathways. With the Massachusetts Vocational Technical Education Frameworks as the foundation of this four-year program, students study anatomy and physiology, growth and development, medical terminology, infectious disease, nutrition and more.  As a rigorous, academically based program, the integration of academic learning allows students to see the interconnectedness of vocational training and academic courses that leads to an understanding of the holistic nature of vocational education.

With patient health and safety a top priority, students are instructed on safety practices and procedures from the first day of class and earn OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR/AED certification by junior year.  Students are also instructed on personal safety and methods regarding practices such as lifting, transporting patients, sanitation, and working with medical waste to ensure student safety both in the classroom and the workplace.

Recognizing that students need more than technical skills and knowledge to experience success in the workplace, students at Dean study employability skills that include mock interviews, time management strategies and workplace communication, as well as topics in management, meeting coordination, and standard documentation processes.  The curriculum is rounded out with an overview of technological skills that includes presentation software, spreadsheet preparation, Google and 365 platforms, and other commonly used in health care settings.

At various points in the program, students will be able to participate in clinical experiences at area hospitals, nursing homes, and/or other facilities that will provide real-world experience that truly offers a glimpse into the healthcare industry.  In their senior year, students are prepared to sit for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)  exam, in which a passing score provides students with the credentials necessary to secure an entry-level position at various healthcare facilities.

All vocational opportunities at Dean are offered without regard to race, color, sex, gender-identity, religion, national origin, English language proficiency, disability, sexual orientation, or homelessness status.
