Two students work on a robotics project

Science. Technology. Engineering. Mathematics. These four subjects together make up “STEM,” a shorthand acronym for the academic fields that drive progress and innovation.

All HPS students regularly participate in STEM lessons and activities at every grade level. At Peck Middle School, for example, students get hands-on with technology through robots, 3D printers, and computer programming as a part of their Automation Robotics class, taught by Kevin Burke.

The Automation Robotics class is part of the Project Lead The Way curriculum, which imparts STEM lessons through hands-on, project-based learning. Massachusetts STEM Week is an annual celebration each October that encourages young people to consider a future in a STEM field.
