HPS logo with text: Proposed contract provides a fifth-year teacher with a master's degree an increase of $16,000 or 27% over 3 years

A  fifth-year teacher with a bachelor’s degree at Holyoke Public Schools earned $59,000 during the 2024-25 school year.  Under the School Committee’s most recent proposal, that salary would increase to $66,300 for the 2025-26 school year, with additional raises as follows:

  • $70,875 in 2026-27

  • $75,000 in 2027-28

  • Over the three-year period, the proposed salary increase would be $16,000 or 27%

“This example is for a fifth-year teacher with a master’s degree,” said Chief of Human Resources Beth Gage. “Teachers would receive additional compensation ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 if working in a critical need area or school. In the past, example critical need areas included special education, secondary math, or select career vocational technical education (CVTE) programming.”

The School Committee’s proposal for teachers is highly competitive, placing Holyoke in the top third of districts for teacher salaries—including those with early-to-mid-career and veteran teachers—when compared to nine nearby districts (Agawam, Chicopee, Easthampton, Ludlow, Northampton, South Hadley, Springfield, West Springfield and Westfield). A comparison chart will be available soon.
