Superintendent's Spotlight

Holyoke Public Schools Superintendent Anthony Soto kicks off a new video series this week, beginning with an overview to instructional leadership and how the support and training provided by district and school administrators helps teachers develop as educators.

This first video features a discussion between Superintendent Soto and Executive Director of School Leadership Jackie Glasheen about the structured approach administrators use to support data-driven decision-making and provide tailored support for school principals, assistant principals, and instructional coaches. These school leaders in turn use this guidance to support and train their classroom educators.

“We are on the right course. We are doing the right work. Our academic team is the strongest that it's ever been,” Ms. Glasheen notes in the video. Getting to this point has taken a lot of work, she added, and there’s still more work to do to improve student learning outcomes.

“Change doesn't happen overnight. It takes three to five years. It's going to happen,” she added, “but we need to stay the course” and continue to focus on strategies that work.

“When I look at high performing districts and schools across the country and across our Commonwealth, one thing that I notice they have is high quality curriculum. They're data driven, they have continuous learning for their teachers, and they're consistent.”

This consistency is key, Ms. Glasheen said, and HPS is committed to maintaining a focus on high-quality curriculum, data-driven decision making, and continuous learning for all educators.
