Lawrence School will operate on its regular schedule today. Holyoke Gas & Electric is working on repairing a gas leak near Sergeant and Chestnut. Holyoke Police and Holyoke Fire are also on the scene. Lawrence School is not affected.
Watch Dean Tech and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office launch FUEL (Forfeiture Used for Educational Learning), a program that transfers vehicles forfeited through criminal proceedings to public schools for hands-on educational use. The initiative debuted at William J. Dean Technical High School.
Holyoke students and staff devoted time this morning to remember, reflect, and honor all those affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. At Lawrence Elementary, conversations focused on the countless helpers who risked their lives to rescue survivors that day, including Welles Crowther. Welles was an equities trader and volunteer firefighter who became known as “the man in the red bandana” that he wore as a protective mask while guiding people to safety before the South Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed that morning. Welles was one of 2,977 who perished that day.
