Join the Holyoke High School Theater Company on November 14, 15, and 16 beginning at 6:30 p.m. for three powerful performances of the multilingual version of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town.” A drama featuring translated passages by Nilo Cruz and Jeff Augustin, this production will feature English and Spanish dialogue performed by bilingual actors, with projected subtitles in English and Spanish.
“Our Town” follows the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually—in one of the most famous scenes in American theater—die. Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, “Our Town” depicts the small town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, through three acts: "Daily Life," "Love and Marriage," and "Death and Eternity." In the next step for a play that Wilder conceived from the beginning as a play about everywhere, “Our Town” will be performed in two languages: English and Spanish. Infused with layers of culture and community, this new acting edition celebrates Grover's Corners as an international address. Parental guidance recommended: Contains mature themes.
Under the leadership of Theater & Media teacher Bevan Brunelle, the Holyoke High School Theater Company is an after-school club that is an extension of the Performing & Media Arts Academy at Holyoke High. The cast and crew of this production involves students from grades 9-12 including: Jula Arzate, Darius Baez, Miguel Daily, Davier Diaz, Qua’nae Golston-Thomas, Nayshaliz Gonzalez, Aniya Gomez, Gabi Knowlton, Isaias Lopez, Liamar Martin, Fynn Maldonado, Sabby Morris, Cassidy Padua, Michael Rivera-Pagan, Aidan Fontanez-Courchesne, Mya Rodriguez, Nick Rodriguez, Lily Tapion, Sage Vermes, and Alaina Vargas.
All performances will be staged in the John F. Sears Auditorium at Holyoke High School, 500 Beech Street in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
Advance tickets are $10 for general admission, and $5 for student and staff tickets. Advance tickets are available at the Holyoke High School Main Office and online at https://mifafestival.org/events. Online fees apply. No exchanges. Online ticket sales will end at 5 p.m. on November 14, but same-day tickets will be available at each performance for $10 each for students and staff and $15 for General Admission.
