What’s been happening at the middle school construction site over the past few months? Check out this 18-minute video for a virtual tour guided by HPS Maintenance Administrator Sean Sheedy that covers progress at the site through mid-April. In the video, Mr. Sheedy points out newly added utility features such as the HVAC system and sprinkler system, as well as the beginning of finishing details such as paint, flooring, and tiling.
During the tour, Mr. Sheedy also spoke directly to Holyoke’s young people, encouraging them to consider careers in trades.
“There’s a lot of trades out there that we need students to find a passion for,” said Mr. Sheedy. “You can make a very good living in the construction industry, and it’s not just about the money. There’s a satisfaction there when you design a building or work in a building. You go home at the end of the day tired, but you’ve made a real difference in the world.”
Construction continues on-time and on-budget, with an anticipated opening ahead of the new school year in late summer 2025. The school will accommodate approximately 550 students in grades 6-8.
