33 students pose with their letters

Earlier this month, 33 high school seniors and their families gathered at the start of the school day to share a breakfast, highlight their academic achievements, and to celebrate the good news: Each student was the recipient of a John and Abigail Adams Scholarship from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

“This is just one of the many opportunities students have to see how their hard work pays off,” said HHS North college and career counselor Tyler Ochs. “We had an excellent time celebrating our students and look forward to further recognitions throughout the year.”

The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is granted to students who score in the advanced level on one of three 10th grade MCAS subject areas, and proficient or advanced in the other two categories, and whose combined MCAS score places them in the top 25% of students in their district. The award comes in the form of a tuition credit for any Massachusetts community college, state university, or any University of Massachusetts (UMass) campus.

During the breakfast, each student was individually presented their reward in the form of a letter explaining how the scholarship works and the dollar amounts per type of college.
