Weather forecasters say there could be significant amounts of snow on Sunday, January 25 leading into Monday, January 26. Unfortunately, it’s too early to know for sure how much snow will fall in Holyoke or whether school schedules will be affected by the storm.
If school schedules will be affected on Monday, Holyoke Public Schools will let community members know over the weekend through the district’s regular communication channels:
The district website is the first place HPS posts changes to school schedules, so always check there first. As soon as a decision is made to close schools, release early, or open late, the district posts an alert banner at the top of every page of the website and also a news story on the district home page and on each school’s home page.
Keep in mind: If nothing has been posted on the district website, then no decision has been made yet.
Families and staff will be alerted via texts, phone calls, and emails through the district’s messaging system.
Important: Families and staff members who do not receive an automated call, text, or email from the district’s messaging system, it is likely because your current phone number and/or email address is not in our system. You can provide updated contact information by completing this form.
HPS shares information about changes in school schedules with Western Mass News, WWLP Channel 22, and MassLive, so you can also check those news outlets.
As a courtesy to families and staff who access Facebook for information, HPS will post closing and delay information on the district’s Facebook page—but please be aware this is the last place the district posts information since not everyone has access to information posted there. HPS staff do monitor messages sent via Facebook Messenger, but there can be a delayed response time, so you will get information faster if you check the home page of the district website first.
What’s the difference between a school closure and a district closure?
When schools are closed, district employees and 12-month school staff are expected to report to work.
When we announce a district closure, only essential employees are expected to report to work, including custodians, craftsmen/women and central maintenance staff.
More information about inclement weather is available on the district website, including school schedules for early release and delayed start days.
