Summer is a great time to pick up a book and read—especially for students on summer break. Families are encouraged to read together and enjoy their favorite novels, stories, books, manga, news articles, and more this summer.
Children, teens, and even adults who read for just 30 minutes a day over the summer have an opportunity to win prizes such as games, gift cards, and books as part of a city-wide summer reading challenge organized by the Holyoke Public Library. Reading logs will be available the week of June 26.
For HPS students in grades K-8, there’s a chance to win bigger: One student from each participating grade level districtwide will win their choice of a scooter or a tablet.
To participate, students must:
Read at least 30 minutes a day throughout the summer (June 26-August 25)
Have an adult initial the log for each day of reading
Return their completed log to school by Friday, September 5, 2025
Not sure where to start? Check out this summer reading guide in English and Spanish, or ask a librarian to help decide your next read.
