Victor Piñeiro stopped by Sullivan and Peck this week to talk to students about his new book, “The Island of Forgotten Gods,” a fantasy-adventure novel set in Puerto Rico that features folklore, monsters, and an iconic Abuela.
“How many books for middle school students are set in Puerto Rico?” Mr. Piñeiro asked the audience. He shared that he could only find one other before writing his own, and spoke about his hope that students would be able to connect with his characters. Students were engaged, with many asking questions, sharing their experiences, and beginning to read the book right away.
This event was made possible in partnership with the Odyssey Bookshop in South Hadley, which helped provide each sixth-grade student a new, signed copy of Mr. Piñeiro’s book.
