Headshots of two school leaders

Morgan Principal Sacha Garcia-Mailloux’s last day in Holyoke Public Schools will be Friday, February 13. She has accepted the position of director of multilingual learners in Springfield Public Schools—the community where she has previously worked and where she currently lives. A Holyoke native and HPS graduate, Ms. Garcia-Mailloux began with the district in 2019 as the principal at Sullivan School and transitioned to Morgan Elementary in 2022 to guide the school forward after the districtwide rezoning process.

“We will conduct a search for a permanent principal at Morgan Elementary to begin this summer and will keep you informed of this process as it develops,” Interim Superintendent Anthony Soto said in a letter to families, staff, and community members on February 4. “In the meantime, we are fortunate to have a deep bench of leaders in Holyoke, and Ryan Carrie, Morgan’s assistant principal, has agreed to serve as interim principal of Morgan Elementary.”

Mr. Carrie joined the HPS team in 2022 as a dean of management and operations at Sullivan School and then moved to Morgan Elementary as an assistant principal in 2023. During his time at Morgan, Ms. Garcia-Mailloux has supported Mr. Carrie to become a strong deputy. He is a former elementary school teacher and youth development professional. He is known for creating a strong sense of belonging for students, staff, and families. He has his masters of education in special education and bachelor’s degree in youth development, both from Springfield College.

“I especially want to recognize Ms. Sacha Garcia-Mailloux for her service and dedication to Holyoke Public Schools,” Mr. Soto said. “She has had many successes as a principal in Holyoke. She is a systems thinker, culture builder, and instructional leader. Most recently, Morgan was recognized for making substantial progress towards targets on the state’s accountability system with especially notable progress for students attaining English proficiency, select sub-groups of students achieving proficiency on MCAS, and a reduction in chronic absenteeism. She exemplifies our core beliefs that ‘students are at the center of everything we do’ and that ‘school is a joyful place of discovery, support, and belonging.’ We wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
