Laura Espinoza-Mufson reads to a group of students at E.N. White School

E.N. White Elementary School students listened attentively while community guests read books to them in their classrooms as part of the national celebration of Read Across America Week, held this year from March 2-6.

Guest readers included School Committee member Gladys Lebron Martinez and also Laura Espinoza-Mufson, associate director of Dual Language learning at HPS, Holyoke firefighters and many other community members.

While each class read different books each day, one theme was echoed over and over: The importance of championing kindness.

Read Across America is an annual celebration, organized by the National Education Association (NEA) that begins each year on March 2 in recognition of the birthday of acclaimed children’s author Dr. Seuss. The event coincides with National Reading Month, celebrated each year in March.
