Hampden County is under a heat advisory from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. tomorrow, July 15, with temperatures that can feel as high as 100° F. Need to cool off? Too hot! Summer Eats will provide only grab and go meals at the eight community park locations for children to take home on Tuesday, 7/9. Regular meal offerings are expected to resume on Wednesday. Let's do some math with... games! 🎲 Games are a great way to sharpen your child's math skills while school is out. Some games (which you might already have at home!) that incorporate math include Monopoly, Rummikub, Yahtzee, Sequence Numbers, Tenzi, Phase 10, and Farkle. There are also several fun online resources that your child may have access to with their school login, including Zearn, Prodigy Game, Sumdog, and Splash Math. What goes great with summer sun? Summer reading 🌞📚 Just 30 minutes a day makes a positive impact for reading comprehension, communication skills, and vocabulary acquisition. Attendees, including students, family, and friends, enjoyed a delightful dinner at the award ceremony. To cap off the evening, an ice cream truck made a sweet stop, treating everyone to cool desserts!🍦

She was honored in a ceremony in Boston on Friday, June 14.

She did graduate as planned—AND she was also singled out by Superintendent Anthony Soto in recognition of her hard work throughout the year when he awarded her a Superintendent’s Excellence Award. OA instructional coach Gerardo Orbe nominated Ginellis for this award. “At the start of the school year, Ginellis set a goal to graduate this year. Since then, she has been working very hard at it and has made great progress. She produced some great work, including an interview and profile piece of a relative of hers.”

District leaders dove deep into planning for the 2024-25 school year during a leadership retreat held last week. This opportunity allowed leaders and administrators from all schools and departments to share ideas, discuss difficult topics, and focus on shared goals for the months ahead.

It was fun for all at the first-ever Holyoke Elementary Farm Fun Fair! 🧑‍🌾 Students and families that attended the event at Donahue School were entertained, educated, and nourished thanks to FoodCorps, who hosted the event. Representatives from local food nonprofits shared resources and seeds, while kids enjoyed activities like “pin the tomato on the vine” and decorating garden stones. The HPS food truck was on site to serve a taco dinner with locally-sourced ingredients.
